Glenn Earl Cherrington

January 4, 1923 — May 28, 2010

Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away at the age of 87, on May 28, 2010 in his home of 62 years in Salt Lake City, Utah. He loved life and learning, but his greatest love was his sweetheart, Norma Jeane and his nine wonderful children. His love for music was instilled in him by his mother Theadora Rasmussen Cherrington who played piano while his father Edwin "Archie" Cherrington sang (an old Welsh tradition) and carried on through his children. He was an accomplished piano player and composer, who often said playing the piano was like breathing for him. His wit and wisdom endured to the last as he defied doctors and insisted "Laughter is the best medicine."

Glenn was born Jan. 4, 1923 on the front seat of his parents Model T Ford outside the gates of Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City, and hated the cold ever since. He grew up in Bacchus Utah, with his beloved sisters Cleo and Pearl. He was a proud graduate of Granite High in 1941, where he cherished singing on stage. He attended 1 year at the University of Utah before he joined the Army Air Corps where he served for 3 years. He learned to navigate by the stars- a passion he continued later in life and shared with his children. Stationed in Topeka, Kansas in 1945, he met Norma, (chorister at church) and as fate would have it, were assigned to sing together at a funeral. They were married June 10, 1946 in the Salt Lake, L.D.S. Temple. He worked for the U.S. Post Office for 35 years, while finishing his degree in History at the University of Utah and raising their children: Diane Filler (Gary), Cynthia Richards (John), Joan Morris (Dennis), Melanie Conway (James), Heather Herrscher (Steve), Korvin (Pily), Joyce, Drew (Sherry), and Michelle Fawson (Mark). He was also blessed with 30 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday June 4, 2010, 11:00am at the Crystal Heights Ward Chapel, 2000 East Stratford Ave, where friends may visit with the family from 9:30am to 10:45am prior to services. Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. Online tributes may be sent to the family at: www.holbrookmortuary.com
