Cover for Gordon Rue Sims's Obituary

Gordon Rue Sims

Mar 8, 1922 — May 18, 2019

Gordon Sims was a very kind, gentle, compassionate man and loved by all who knew him. He passed away at age 97.

Gordon was born in Garden City, Utah and loved living at Bear Lake.  He learned how to be a very hard worker as the youngest of 11 children. He moved to Salt Lake after his father died and they sold the farm.

Safeway hired him at the age of 14 because he was such a good, dependable young man. He spent his life working at Grocery stores and was an Assistant Manager at age 18. At age 30 he was made manager.  His employees and customers all loved him because he was always so willing to help them in any way.

Gordon enlisted in the Navy the day after the bomb was dropped in Hawaii.  He trained to be a Navy Pilot and worked hard. He was always assigned to be the platoon leader.  The men loved him.  His integrity was shown when he and his roommate were the only ones that passed the final exam.  All the others paid for the answers and failed the test.

He met and Married Virginia Peterson when he returned home from the war. They had 3 children Mary (deceased), Ruth (Jim Whitehead) and Scott (Lynette).  They raised them in a loving home in Holladay, Utah. Preceded in death by his parents, 6 brothers and 4 sisters, wife, daughter and grandson Keri.  5 Grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

We want to thank Elevation (Hospice Care) for their kind, caring devotion to Dad.
