Our blessed mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, Grace Pratt Thomas, age 91, passed away October 21, 2009 at her son's home in Dublin, CA of causes incidental to age.
Grace was born September 11, 1918 in Hinckley, Utah, the daughter of Thomas Henry Pratt and Jane Marinda Harmon Pratt. She graduated from Hinckley High School in 1936 and from LDS Business College. She worked for the State Road Commission and Utah Sand and Gravel. She was elected President of the Linden Lionette Club during World War II. She married Jay Norwood Thomas on March 5, 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple. Mom devoted her life to her family, both the living and the dead. She looked forward with great anticipation to a joyous reunion with her husband, parents and brothers and with grandparents through the generations whom she never knew in life.
Grace was an excellent cook and seamstress. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a Den Mother, Primary teacher, Primary Pres., Relief Society Pres., and Care Center Relief Society Coordinator. An exceptional genealogist, she served in the Holladay Stake Family History Library and Extraction Program and was adept at reading Old English. She helped index the Salt Lake City Cemetery grave stones. She served a Family History Mission with her husband at the Church Office Building in Salt Lake City. She researched, compiled, and published a 575 page history of the descendents of Jonathan and Susannah Halbert Pratt.
Survivors include three sons, and two daughters, Brent P. Thomas (Wilma), Dublin, CA; Colleen (R. John) Sorenson, Stansbury Park, UT; Mark J. Thomas (Barbara),Benicia, CA; Don R. Thomas (Helen), Bountiful, UT, Carol Nye (D. Andre), Malta, ID, 29 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren (five more on the way). She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, five brothers, Victor, Ansel, Claud, Paul and Jesse and a great granddaughter, Adele Thomas.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 26 at 10:30 AM at the Holladay Stake Center, 4568 South Holladay Blvd., Holladay, UT. Friends may call Sunday evening from 6 to 8 pm at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 S. 2300 E., and at the church Monday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. prior to the services.
