Grant Blackhurst Morrell

Grant Blackhurst Morrell, our loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully at home in Taylorsville, Utah on May 23, 2008 due to complications of Parkinson's disease. He was born May 30, 1924 in Orange Cove, CA to William Ernest Morrell and Margaret Blackhurst. He married his sweetheart, Lois Hoff, on June 15, 1950 in the Salt Lake Temple. He graduated from East High School and attended the University of Utah. He served 8 years in the US Marine Corp. He worked as an accountant, and in later years he loved working as a security officer for the LDS Church. He was an active and devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many callings including Bishoprics, Bishop, and High Council. He and Lois served from 1993 to 1994 in the North Carolina Charlotte Mission. He is survived by his wife, daughters Marche' (Niel) Altom of Guntersville, AL, Manette (Jon) Allred of West Valley City, UT; sons Garn (Diane) Morrell of Kaysville, UT, and Larry (Amanda) Morrell of Salt Lake City; 19 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; sister Eleanor (Harold) Balls of Soda Springs, ID; brother Edwin (Norma) Morrell of Provo, UT. Preceded in death by his parents, a brother Wallace, and one infant grandson. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, May 28 at the Riverview Ward, 4845 South Woodhaven Drive (1400 West), Taylorsville. A viewing will be held Tuesday, May 27 from 7:00-9:00 PM at Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East and at the ward chapel on Wednesday from 10:30 to 11:30 AM prior to the service. Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. Online condolences to the family may be sent at www.holbrookmortuary.com. A special thanks and appreciation to the wonderful staff of Heartwood Hospice for their loving care and support this past year. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Perpetual Education Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
