Gulli Margareta Svard Cobler

August 2, 1942 — July 18, 2025

Salt Lake City, Utah – Gulli Margareta “Margaret” Svärd Cobler, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 18, 2025, at the age of 82, surrounded by her loving family.

Margaret was born on August 2, 1942, in Örebro, Sweden, to Greta Linnea and Axel Nathaniel Svärd. In 1948, at the age of six, she traveled by ship with her parents and brother, Stieg, from Sweden to America. The journey to start a new life took over a month, requiring them to leave behind family and most of their personal belongings. Margaret remained deeply proud of her Swedish heritage throughout her life. She taught her children the Swedish language and preserved treasured family traditions that kept their heritage alive.

Margaret met the love of her life, William “Bill” George Cobler, at the Pike in Long Beach, California. They married on May 10, 1962, and later had their marriage sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2022, shortly before Bill’s passing. They spent 50 years together in their home in Sugar House, where they raised six children: Tammy McGowan (George), William Cobler, Duane Cobler, Lisa Copling (Todd), Darrin Cobler (Victoria), and Julie Cobler. Their legacy includes 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, who brought them endless joy.

Margaret spent many years working in the school lunch program and later dedicated 25 years of hard work to Genuine Parts Company (NAPA). She was a reliable and valued employee who loved her job delivering auto parts and took pride in her perfect attendance record.

She had a passion for travel and shared that joy with her family. She and Bill traveled extensively, and she often took grandchildren on unforgettable trips. Some of her favorite travel memories included adventures to Africa, Alaska, Sweden, France, Spain, China, Japan, and a recent beautiful Danube River cruise with her daughters. Her final cherished trip was to Switzerland with her daughter, son, and son-in-law.

Margaret had a tender heart, especially for newborns. She lovingly hand-knitted and crocheted sweaters, booties, hats, and blankets for each baby born into her family and circle of friends; a tradition that was both heartfelt and deeply appreciated.

Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. As a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she lived her testimony through service, church attendance, and example. She faithfully served as Cub Scout leader, Primary Secretary, Visiting Teacher, and Church Librarian. She was grateful for the gospel that ultimately led her family to America and joyfully shared her beliefs with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” George Cobler; parents, Greta Linnea and Axel Nathaniel Svärd; and her infant sister.
