On September 24, 2025 at the age of 93 Gwen Fisher Giles, passed away, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Rigby, Idaho in 1931. After graduating from high school she attended Ricks College and Utah State University. Upon completion of an internship in Dietetics at University of Oregon Hospitals and Clinics in Portland, Oregon she completed her bachelor's degree and accepted employment as a dietitian at the VA Hospital in Salt Lake City. In 1993 she earned her Master's degree in Foods and Nutrition from the University of Utah.
She met and married the love of her life, A. Allen Giles in 1956 and was married in the Idaho Falls Temple and they were blessed with four children. Gwen chose to leave her employment at the birth of her children and became a stay-at-home mom. She enjoyed her family, sewing shirts, dresses, jackets and snow suits. She enjoyed preserving the fruits and vegetables that were grown in their large garden in Holladay. Her true passion was searching for family history and completing genealogy records. She loved to create knitted and crocheted items to share with her children and grandchildren. Her children were her treasures, she looked forward to outings to stage plays, historical sites, zoo, aviary and other adventures they shared as a family.
After raising her children, she accepted an adjunct teaching position at Salt Lake Community College, teaching nutrition classes for 15 years. In 1994 she received the adjunct "Teaching in Excellence" award.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many different callings, attending the temple with her husband, and had a firm testimony of the divinity of Jesus Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her sister Vonda. She is survived by her children: William (Patricia), Graceann, Dan (Kelly), Alayna and (Shawn), 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild on his way.
A viewing will be held Monday, September 29th at 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Holladay 24th Ward Chapel, 4395 South Albright Drive, Holladay. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at 11:00 am, with a viewing from 10:00am – 10:45am at the church. Interment at Holladay Memorial Cemetery 4900 South Memory Lane, Holladay following the services
