Gwendolyn Elizabeth Johnson age 89 has gone home peacefully on December 12, 2010.
She has left behind her children Mabel (Eddie) Hickerson of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada, Nora Sutton of Princeton, British Columbia, Canada and Charles or Chuck (Sandi) Johnson of Grantsville, Utah. Also surviving are grandchildren Dave (Alyson) Hickerson, Ken (Bree) Hickerson, Bruce (Laura) Hickerson, Chuck (Camille) Johnson and Sara (Romie) Flowers; Step-grandchildren Chris, Lisa and William; and many great grandchildren and neices and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Charlie Johnson, parents John and Mabel Mounstephen, siblings Hazel, Mildred, Jack, Gerald and a baby sister.
Gwen's growing up years took place in the village of Kakabeka Falls, Ontario, Canada where she helped her parents in their country store and post office. She lived during the depression years losing her father when only 15. She grew up loving the outdoors, the birch trees, the wild flowers and lakes and streams and later in life created many beautiful oil paintings which she generously gave away.
As an adult she was always busy, always unselfishly giving of her time to family, friends and children. She was cheerful and loving and a walker even into her late eighties and earlier in her sixties and seventies would climb to the peaks of mountains with her husband Charlie and friends. She will be remembered also for her soprano voice having at one time directed a church choir. An avid gardener she would spend many hours doing yard and garden work. Gwen would never know when to quit, when a job needed doing she just did it, and never complained, That was the way she was. Gwen was also faithful and believing in a Heavenly Father who would answer prayers if she would just ask and her prayers were answered. She was a firm believer in that.
Gwen has been welcomed on the other side where a great celebration has taken place but all who she has left behind will miss her friendly spirit and helping hand.
Memorial service is pending.
