Harold Daly Leavitt, 88, passed away Wednesday evening June 17, 2009 with family by his side. Harold was born January 14, 1921 in Orem, Utah to MaryAnn Daly and Alonzo R. Leavitt. He was the middle child of 11. On July 11, 1942 he married Dorothy Wilson.
During WWII, he served in the US Coast Guard. That's where he learned discipline but also learned to love the ocean, ships and travel. Throughout his life he visited many countries all around the world.
He worked many years as a letter carrier and retired from the Post Office. He also worked several second jobs and was a good provider.
Harold was a wonderful Daddy. He loved life and always counted his blessings. Among the blessings he counted are his country, his Mormon pioneer heritage, home, neighbors, friends, good health, work, play and especially his family. He was also grateful his friend of 20 years, Carolyn Middlemiss.
He is survived by his children: Wayne (Louise), Hayward, CA, Loretta (Harold) Hinton, Hurricane, UT (Now serving a mission in South Dakota), Betsy (Mike) Lloyd, S.L.C., UT, and Shelly (Michael) Gourley, Marysville, TN. He has 15 Grandchildren and 26 Great Grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 sisters and 2 brothers. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 40 years, Dorothy.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 22, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cottonwood 3rd Ward, 6301 South 2300 East. Friends and family can visit Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, and at the church Monday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service.
