Harold “Short-t” Eugene Goode, age 65, left this mortal life on December 23, 2023, in Murray, Utah, surrounded by family, after bravely facing the challenges posed by pancreatic cancer. Born on January 8, 1958, in the territory of Alaska at Fort Elmendorf, Anchorage, to Stanley J. Goode and Barbara Jean Berrey, Short-t's life was a testament to love, resilience, and unwavering faith.
In 1980, he married KoShell Burnham in the Salt Lake Temple and welcomed two beautiful daughters into the world. Short-t and KoShell later divorced. In 2006, in the Mount Timpanogos Temple in American Fork, Utah, Harold married the love of his life, Trudi Birrell. Their union brought over 17 years of joyous companionship, laughter, and shared dreams.
Preceding him in death were his beloved father, mother, and brother Robert. He is survived by his devoted wife, Trudi, his cherished daughters Jessica (Kevin) and Kaylene (Ken), stepchildren Dane (Charlotte) and Sara (Chris), siblings Martha (Kevin) and Tomas (Jen) and his stepsiblings. Short-t was a loving grandfather to James & Kyle, Jensen & Avery, and Everleigh & Blake.
In his youth, Short-t proudly served in the ROTC and embarked on a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Lansing Michigan Mission. Throughout his life, he magnified numerous church callings, including Stake High Councilor, Bishopric Counselor, Ward Clerk, and Elders Quorum President. His deep love for the scriptures, temple attendance and unwavering testimony touched the lives of many.
Short-t found happiness in traveling, especially relishing long scenic car rides, and took pride in having traversed all 50 states. His passion for trains was showcased in his N-gauge model train track, reflecting his creativity and meticulous attention to detail.
Short-t's love for history led him to explore museums and delve into the stories of the past. He valued education, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Southern Utah College. His military upbringing, marked by moves across Alaska, Texas, California, Italy, North Carolina, New Mexico, and Utah, shaped his ability to forge connections and make friends effortlessly.
Short-t's life was a journey marked by joy and meaningful connections. A compassionate soul, Short-t dedicated himself to assisting others with personal finances and taxes through The Goode Foundation. His employment as a Controller for Aspire Home Health & Hospice in Taylorsville, Utah, was not just his favorite job; he considered them family. The care and support he received from these remarkable people during his final days will forever be held in the hearts of his grateful family.
Short-t's infectious laughter and perpetual smile brightened every room he entered. His gift for cracking jokes and weaving engaging stories endeared him to all who knew him. Short-t will be remembered for the laughter he shared, the friendships he built, and the positive energy he brought into every space.
Funeral services to celebrate the remarkable life of Harold "Short-t" Eugene Goode will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Stake Center on 3120 West 4700 South, West Valley City, Utah, on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at 12:00 pm. A viewing will precede the service on Friday, December 29, 2023, from 6:30-8:00 pm, and on Saturday morning from 11:00-11:45 am at the Stake Center. The interment will take place at the Memorial Holladay Cemetery, 4900 South Memory Lane (2000 East), Holladay, Utah, following the funeral services.
