Harvey M. Broadbent

June 20, 1917 — June 1, 2008

Dr. Harvey M. Broadbent, age 90, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2008, in Bountiful, Utah. He was born June 20, 1917, in Heber City, Utah, the son of David A. and Mima Melissa Murdock Broadbent; the tenth of fourteen children. Harvey married Louise Bawden on June 10, 1943, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Harvey served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the North Central States Mission where his loving father presided as Mission President. He earned his Bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University and received a Master's degree from the University of Minnesota in Business Administration. In 1942, at the onset of WWII, Harvey volunteered his service in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in December 1945. After the war, he pursued a professional education at the University of Louisville, School of Dentistry. Dr. Broadbent graduated in the spring of 1950, moving to Clearfield, Utah, where his career as a dentist flourished for 40+ years. Harvey loved to serve his church, community, and family. He served faithfully in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints which service included; counselor in the stake presidency and stake president of the Clearfield Utah Stake; stake patriarch; mission to Bangkok, Thailand, with his wife, Louise; and President of the Ogden Utah Temple (1993-1996). He enjoyed service in the community where he was a board member of several civic and professional organizations and the Clearfield City Council. His cherished role in life was being a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather to his family. He loved paying his tithing, the sheep ranch, gardening, family vacations and especially Yellowstone. Survived by his children: Steven (Julie) Broadbent, Pleasant View; Mary Lou (Craig) Seamons, Centerville; David (Kaylene) Broadbent, Fruit Heights; Neil (Audre') Broadbent, Layton; Dean (Julie) Broadbent, North Ogden; Douglas (Laurie) Broadbent, Ogden; 31 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen (Jens) Jonsson, Provo. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise and granddaughter, Justine Broadbent. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 7, 2008, at 12:00 noon in the Clearfield Stake Center, 931 South State, Clearfield, Utah. Friends and family may visit Friday evening, June 6, 2008, at the Clearfield Stake Center from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Saturday morning from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM prior to the services. Interment will be in the Clearfield City Cemetery. Online condolences to the family can be sent to www.holbrookmortuary.com. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the Temple Construction or Perpetual Education funds for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, or the Alzheimer Research Foundation.
