Helen S. Chindgren

January 31, 1916 — March 16, 2010

Helen Mae Shufelt Chindgren passed away peacefully March 16, 2010. She was born January 31, 1916 to Bessie Carpenter and Isaac Shufelt.

She served in the Women's Auxiliary Army Corps during World War II receiving many decorations and medals. She married Carl Julius Chindgren July 1946 in Boise, Idaho after a brief courtship of 4 weeks. They were happily married for 63 1/2 years.

Helen and Carl enjoyed the outdoors, they hiked, fished, skied and snowshoed together, but their passion and hobby was birding.

She was active in women's clubs and President of the Audubon Society for about 20 years.

Helen is survived by her husband, Carl; and brother, Kenneth (Shirley); and nephew, Steve (Julie) Chindgren.

Graveside services will held Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Salt Lake City Cemetery, 200 North N Street. Online messages and tributes to Helen's family can be posted at: www.holbrookmortuary.com
