Helen passed away peacefully June 17, 2014 in Salt Lake City. She was 88.
Helen was born August 19, 1925 in Logan, Utah to Joseph W. and Lysle H. Mouritsen. She loved her growing up years in Logan with her sister Rita, where they enjoyed horseback riding, softball, ice skating, sledding, skiing, camping and fishing in Logan Canyon and Yellowstone with family and friends.
Helen spent many years working as a bookkeeper for her father's coal company. She graduated from Utah State University. Helen served an LDS mission to the New England States Mission. She married Harvey S. Greenfield on June 10, 1953 in the Logan Temple. Together they spent many years raising their children in Logan, in Scotland while Harvey earned his Ph.D. and finally here in Salt Lake City. She was a dedicated homemaker, and she gave many years of service as a caretaker to her mother, her aunt, and her husband. Helen chose in life to be a wonderful wife and mother and daughter of our Father in Heaven. She was always available to tend grandchildren, celebrate birthdays, and go out to dinner. She made several lifetime friends while working in the payroll dept. for JC Penney's with the neighborhood ladies. Helen was an active member of the LDS church, serving in leadership and teaching positions. Her favorite calling was that of primary teacher for many years in the Valley View 7th Ward. Helen also enjoyed serving as an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake Temple. She loved traveling, gardening, the Logan Opera season, watching old musicals with family, and especially spending time with her children and grandchildren at home and on many Disney trips. Helen's gentle, loving and forgiving nature made family and friends want to be around her. She will be missed dearly.
Helen is survived by children Kent (Kathy) Greenfield, Allison (Bruce) Black, Paige (Mark) Rallison, 14 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and her sister Rita Leonhardt. Preceded in death by her husband, Harvey.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Avalon Care Center for their dedicated and professional care of our mother. A special thanks to Jasmine and Chantele for their love and friendship with Mom.
