Helen Glauser Skidmore 1920 - 2007

Helen, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother peacefully left this world at her home on May 9, 2007. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on November 19, 1920 to John and Lena Glauser, the fifth of seven children. She married Arthur John Skidmore Jr., the love of her life, on August 14, 1942 in Denver, Colorado. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on May 6, 1996. Helen attended Uinta Elementary, Roosevelt Junior High, East High school and the University of Utah. She lived her entire life in Salt Lake City except for two years in Corpus Christi, Texas and San Diego, California while her husband was assigned to a Naval Air Group during World War II. Helen served faithfully in the auxiliaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority and was active in insurance circles with her husband Art. Helen enjoyed being around people. She worked for the Salt Lake City Convention Bureau for many years and showed her love and compassion while serving as a volunteer and member of the auxiliary at the University Hospital. She enjoyed the company of her friends at the Golden Girls monthly luncheons. She was an excellent and meticulous homemaker. She loved music, theater, golf and was an avid bridge player. She especially loved being with her family and participating in their many activities. Summers at Lake Powell, and attending the children's and grandchildren's programs were a great delight for her. After Art retired, they enjoyed many wonderful trips together. She will be greatly missed by her husband Art, three children: Christi Heal (Robert) Logan, Stanley Skidmore (Kathy) Layton, Shelley Kendall (Mike) Layton; thirteen grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister Gloria Combe, and brothers Alvon and Reid Glauser. She was preceded in death by sisters Ruby Jackson and Lucile Butterfield and a brother Floyd Glauser. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2007 at 1:00 P.M. at the Canyon Rim 2nd Ward, 3100 East 3000 South. A viewing will be held on Saturday from 11:15 A.M. to 12:45 P.M. prior to services at the church. In lieu of flowers take a friend to lunch. Condolences may be sent to www.holbrookmortuary.com.
