Henrietta Ruth Flanary, age 87, returned to our Father in Heaven in West Valley City, Utah on July 18, 2013. Ruth was our loving Mother, Grandmother (Granny), Great Grandmother, and friend. She was born December 11, 1925 in Denver, Colorado to Henry Oetzel and Shirley Winegardner Oetzel.
Ruth grew up in Denver, Colorado, graduated from North High School, and was married to James G. Flanary on December 15, 1945. As a proud military spouse, she had the opportunity to travel all over our beautiful nation with her husband and two children. In 1960, they returned to Colorado, and she lived there until 1992, when she moved to Salt Lake City, Utah.
She was employed by the Federal Aviation Administration for many years. She was an Eastern Star and a Mother Advisor for Rainbow Girls in Aurora, Colorado. Ruth was an active member of the LDS Church and was an excellent homemaker. She loved painting, crocheting and knitting for her family and friends.
She is survived by: her two children, Naoma (Jim) Speck and James Flanary; 3 grandchildren, Jeremiah (Hillary) Flanary, Julie (Victor) Rodriguez, and Jessica (Aldo) Wug; 10 great grandchildren who love her dearly. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband and 2 sisters.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 22; viewing at 11:00 am, service at noon in the Pheasant Brook Ward Chapel, 3737 South 5600 West, West Valley City, Utah. Interment to take place in Denver, Colorado at Crown Hill Cemetery at a later date.
