Herbert Harold Ritzman 1909 ~ 2007
Herb passed away on April 24. He was born in Holladay on August 24, 1909 to Johann Karl and Elisabeth Henninger Ritzman, and lived over ninety-seven years in the shadow of Mt. Olympus. He married Norma Taylor of Holladay on August 10, 1939 in the Salt Lake Temple. They are survived by a daughter, Nancy (Raymond) Weidner of Murray; and sons Dr. J. Ray (Marilyn) of Holladay, Brent (Kim) of West Weber and Lee (Kathleen) of Newport Oregon. They have 75 descendents, 70 of whom are living. Norma died two years ago after ten years of a debilitating illness. She required a lot of care which Herb lovingly provided and he never became impatient, even when she asked the same question five times in as many minutes. His only desire was to live long enough to see her through it. Well done, Herb! Herb delivered mail and then worked in maintenance at the Post Office. He retired after over thirty years of service. He was a jack of all trades, master of a few, and good at most. He could build or repair nearly anything. The couple was especially proud of the home they built together. They framed, plumbed, wired dry-walled and painted it and laid every brick. The workmanship was top notch, and they did it without incurring any debt. His upbringing and the great depression taught him thrift; but he was generous with his resources, particularly to those seeking education or to otherwise better themselves. He was loved and respected by family and community. We miss him. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 28, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at the Holladay Stake Center, 4568 Holladay Blvd. A viewing will be held on Friday evening, April 27, 2007 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East and on Saturday, from 9:45 A.M. to 10:45 A.M. at the stake center prior to services. Interment: Holladay Memorial Park. Condolences may be sent to www.holbrookmortuary.com.
