Hollis Done Smith

December 11, 1922 — January 30, 2011

Hollis Done Smith, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away on Jan. 30, 2011 of causes incident to injuries sustained in an accidental fall.

Dad will be greatly missed. He was born on Dec. 11, 1922 in Cache Junction, Utah to George Done Smith and Lucinda Fern Nilson.

He served in the Navy in WWII as a Radioman in the Philippines for 2 years. Dad served an LDS mission to Texas.

He met the love of his life Florence Geneve Clark at the Utah State University, and they were married in 1950 in the Logan LDS Temple. They had eight children: Lynn (Darlene) Smith; Ron (Nancy) Smith; Mark (Wendy) Smith; Loretta (Jon) Shupe; Kyle (Jennifer) Smith; Rachelle Byrnes; Alison (Dean) Mirsoltani; and Marilyn Donohue. Hollis and Florence have 48 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren.

Hollis worked for the Union Pacific RR as a train dispatcher for 40 years. Dad was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all of his life. He served in many ward and stake callings including the bishopric, the High Council and the Boy Scouts. He was a temple worker in the Salt Lake Temple for over 7 years. He and Florence served an LDS mission in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He served a term as Chapter President of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers.

Dad loved serving the Lord and his fellowman. He was loved and respected by all who knew him. He was always found doing something kind or expressing kind words for others.

Dad is survived by his wife and eight children. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother George S. Smith and sister Maxine Hovey.

A viewing will be Thursday night Feb. 3rd from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Holbrook Mortuary (3251 South 2300 East, Salt Lake City, Utah). The funeral will be Friday Feb. 4th at 11:00 am preceded by a viewing from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the LDS East Millcreek North Stake Center 3103 E. 3600 So. (go North on 3100 E. from 3900 So.).
