Hyrum Reich, writes:

“Well, here I am. Man the years have flown by. I can’t wait to see mom and dad and I’ve only been gone a few days. I already miss Elaine. I have been the most blessed and luckiest person ever born. I’ve had the best parents ever; I’ve missed them so much. I have the most wonderful wife, she’s more than I deserved. We had six great kids, 24 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. I love them all. And finally, I have a business partner of 40+ years who has been loyal, true and dedicated all those years. I will miss him.

I was born the 10th of 11 children in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Erich and Helen Reich, on January 26, 1939. I grew up in Sandy, Utah, I had a wonderful childhood, exploring all the sheds, barns and coops on our farm. We built huts and played “cowboys and Indians” on the sage brush flats and dry creek. We swam in the dirty canal. They were great days working on the farm. We were probably poor, but we didn’t know it. I attended Sandy Elementary and Sandy Junior High (purple and gold). I graduated from Jordan High School (proud Beet digger) in 1957. Elaine and I were married in the Salt Lake Temple that same year. I married way up. We built a home in Sandy, Utah, in 1959 and lived there until our move to South Jordan, Utah, in 2006.

Elaine raised and nurtured our children without much help from me and still worked side by side with me in our business.

I served in the Utah National Guard for 13 years as the mess sergeant in the 144th evac. hospital unit.

We partnered up with Mike Baucum in 1974 and spent the next 40 years in many businesses, buying and managing many properties. Elaine always went along with anything I did, always supportive and working by my side. I DIDN’T LIKE RETIREMENT!!!

I had the great honor and privilege to serve the members of the Sandy Utah, Hillcrest 5th ward as bishop. I love those folks. I also served in the Jordan River Temple for 17 years.

I have defeated the dreaded big “C” two times, and a heart attack.

I love our children. Any success they achieve is due to their mother. I love her the most!

I’ve had a wonderful life and have so much to be grateful for.

Parting tips – Never assume and don’t take anyone or anything for granted.”
