Ilaisaane Nglau Katoa

April 17, 1947 — December 14, 2022

Ilaisaane Ngalu Katoa returned to her Heavenly Father on December 14, 2022
surrounded by her family and loved ones.
Ilaisaane was born on April 17, 1947 in Oua, Ha’apai, Tonga to Viliami Talo Ngalu and
Lepeka Taufa of Tungua. She met her husband, Sioeli Fotuatungua Katoa, while training as a
Nurse on Tongatapu. They were married on February 2, 1971. After giving birth to her eldest
son, Sione, she joined her husband in the United States and settled in Utah, where they would
raise their 9 children.
Ilaisaane enjoyed cooking to feed her family and friends, she was a talented seamstress,
and enjoyed being a mother and grandmother. She was a faithful member of the Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved doing temple work, studying the scriptures and
serving in various church callings. Ilaisaane enjoyed serving others and especially enjoyed her
daily interactions with her grandchildren whom she loved so much.
Ilaisaane is survived by her children: Taiena Katoa (wife of Sione), Hemaloto & Becky
Katoa, Suliana & Pita Alusa, Milika & Sione Fotu, Salote Katoa, Lepeka Katoa, Sio & Kristina
Katoa, Semisi Katoa, and Sione Angilau. Grandchildren: Ituala & Mike Wicker, Salote,
Ilaisaane, Nita, Hemaloto, Vela, Cora, Liufau, Sioeli, Ana, Telesia, Pita, Tilesa, Sione, Moala,
Ikuna, Lopa, Neita, Sioeli, Ava, Emeline. Greatgrandchild: Sione Wicker. Siblings: Polohiva,
Linita, Funaki, and Ilaisaane
She is preceded in death by her eternal companion Sioeli F. Katoa, her oldest son Sione
Katoa, her parents Viliami Ngalu and Lepeka Taufa, and her siblings Ele, Feteleni, and Laukau.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at the Memorial Murray
Mortuary (5850 South 900 East, Murray 84121). A family viewing will be held from 8:00-9:00
AM, community viewing and program from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM, Funeral Service 1:00-2:00 PM,
followed by interment at Memorial Redwood Cemetery (6500 South Redwood Road, West
Jordan 84123).
