Inez J. Lewis

Inez J. Lewis, a special woman, finished her earthly mission and passed away peacefully of natural causes at her home on December 18  She was born in 1921 in Provo, Utah  to Frank Jones, and Lillian Eliza Gillard.  In 1940 she met and married Lester Glen Lewis in the Salt Lake Temple. He passed away in 1963 from ALS, leaving her a widow for over 53 years.  She was a loving and devoted mother to four children who she raised alone, after the death of her husband.

She was a sweet and gentle woman and extremely talented.  She excelled in every type of sewing and handwork imaginable, blessing many with her beautiful creations.  Inez sewed professionally for ZCMI and others, making clothing including numerous wedding dresses.  Along with raising her four children, Inez worked full time at AT&T (later USWEST).  This became necessary when Glen became ill.  She also enjoyed gardening, canning, oil painting, handcrafts, traveling, and serving in many church callings. She had a testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ which was manifested in her love and kindness to others, especially her family.  Over the years, she helped to extract/index over one million records.  She also helped many through anonymous acts of kindness.  Inez showed her love for the Savior through her service and unconditional love for everyone.  Because she was a very private and quiet woman, most were unaware of her various talents, but many were blessed through her service.  She loved her family and loved having them around, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. As it became more difficult for her to participate in activities she had so enjoyed such as crocheting, working crossword puzzles and reading, she was still cheerful and endured her final trials with grace and dignity. To those who visited and cared for her, our family will be ever grateful.  Her life was truly remarkable, and we know she is now at peace, receiving her reward for all of her selfless acts of service to others.  She was greatly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.

Inez is survived by her four children, Kay Lewis, Dennis (Jhan Turner), Wayne (Sharlene), and Lianne (Russ) Harmon, eleven grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren.  Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband and five siblings, Frank, Leola, Blanch, Ernest, and Edith.

Per her request, there will be a graveside service at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah for family and friends on December 21, at 11:00 a.m.  In lieu of flowers please hug those you love and let them know how special they are to you.
