Ingrid Hardy

Our beloved wife and mother, Ingrid Anneliese Sasse Hardy, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2015.

Ingrid was born September 8, 1941 in Cottbus, Germany to Otto and Bringfriede Sasse. She was baptized by her father, when she turned 8, in the canal flowing out of the river Spree. With the passing of her parents, when she was ten years old, Ingrid lived with her brother Win, two cousins and her Grandmother. She later immigrated to the United States with her family, where they made their home in Salt Lake City.

Ingrid got her first job, the very day she arrived in the United States, at ZCMI, where she was a tailor. She took some schooling in Women's Fashion & Tailoring and soon became a Master Seamstress.

Ingrid loved to dance and became acquainted with a great dance partner, Wendell Hardy. They frequented the Terrace Ballroom and the Green Monster, located downtown, in Salt Lake. Their relationship developed and soon, Ingrid married Wendell Hardy in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on July 2, 1964.

Ingrid and Wendell were soon blessed with two sons: Kurstin and Nathan. She enjoyed taking the boys to hockey practice and all their games. She loved them both!

Ingrid was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved being endowed and going to the Temple with her husband and friends, and cherished her association with ward members. She served in the library of her ward for the past 14 years.

Ingrid always gave of herself and was blessed with many wonderful talents, which she freely shared. She loved to Sing, Cook, Dance, Crochet, Knit, Sew and work with Hair, to name a few. She was happy sharing her talent of cooking with those around her. She was known for making her famous German Potato Salad and Her Black Forest Cake. On one occasion she cooked 30 cakes for a ward party that fed 300 people. Ingrid and Wendell decided to go to school together and became Hairdresser's. She later owned her own salon. She and Wendell would color and cut each other's hair. She also loved to crochet and gave away many afghans to family and friends.  Ingrid was proud of her German heritage and culture, sharing many stories and songs from her young life in Germany.

Ingrid is survived by her husband, Wendell; sons Kurstin and Nathan all of Salt Lake City; brother Win (LeeAnna) Sasse, of Virginia Beach and many cousins, nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her parents.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the workers and aides at IHC Dialysis Center for their special care, and those at HealthSouth for their kindness and dedicated service.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 3, 2015, at 11:00am at the Valley View Stake Center, 2245 East 3900 South, Salt Lake City. Friends and family can visit Monday evening 6:00-8:00pm at Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, Salt Lake City, and at the church Tuesday morning 9:30-10:30am prior to the service.
