Iona Grace Price

September 21, 1925 — January 10, 2024

Our beautiful Mother, Iona Grace (Jordan) Price passed away on January 10, 2024, in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 21, 1925, to the late George J. Jordan and Golda Pearl (Cain) Linn in Weston, West Virginia. Iona was blessed to be raised by her stepfather, Franklin Pierce (Hoop) Linn, whom she loved deeply and considered her father.

Iona was a founding member of the Brentwood United Methodist church.

She was employed February 1946 by Ohio Bell Telephone Company, until her retirement in December of 1991.  She enjoyed her work and was proud of her accomplishments as a phone operator, supervisor, trainer and drafting engineer. She was a member of the Ohio Bell Telephone Pioneers, the Order of Eastern Stars LaBelle Chapter #414, American Legion Aux #33 since 1945 (was the most senior member) and AARP.

Iona lived her life for her children and grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.  As a single mother, she worked tirelessly to provide for her children, working “split-shifts” at the phone company, which allowed her to send her children to school, go to work for 5 hours, come home to prepare dinner, and make sure homework was done, then back to work from 7:00pm to 10:00pm.  Her unwavering sacrifices for her children were simply one example of her commitment to her role as our mother.

Mom was committed to being the best in her senior years both mentally and physically. She used her bike, walked tirelessly, was a whiz at mastering crossword puzzles, loved going to movies, out to dinners and helping her daughter Linda, at her office.

Our Mom was beautiful, classy, tenacious, strong, determined, brave, smart, funny and witty.  She was an absolute pleasure.

At 88 years old, in August of 2013, Mom bravely packed up her home in Ohio and moved across the country to start a new life in Salt Lake City, Utah to be near her daughter Linda and son-in-law Dan, whom she loved as her son. She continued her independent life in her own beautiful condo and started a new life feeling safe, happy and loved beyond measure!

Mom enjoyed life to the fullest after moving closer to Linda!  Some of her favorite activities were dancing, manicures, pedicures, shopping, movies and going out to lunch and dinner.

Our sweet Mother moved to Legacy Village Sugarhouse in January 2019.  The friendships with management, staff and residents meant the world to Mom.

We are so thankful for the precious time we had with her and are selfishly heartbroken, and yet grateful for every moment we shared with our beautiful Mother.

We believe she had a joyful welcome to heaven with her family and loved ones waiting to greet her.

She was preceded in death by her former husband and father of her children, Dr. Robert Ross Price, her mother Golda Pearl Linn, stepfather Franklin (Hoop) Linn, brother George Kenneth (Red) Jordan, US Navy, killed November 1944 Admiralty Isles, Maternal grandmother, Grace Lee Cain Wade, Aunt Hazel Cain Shepherd (NY), and her Step Brother John Richard Linn of Brilliant, Ohio.

Surviving are her children Linda (Dan) Mandrow, Salt Lake City, Bruce (Brenda) Price, Cold Spring, MN, Robert (Michelle) Price, San Antonio, TX, Karen (Tom) Vierheller, Port Washington, OH and 10 Grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

We give special thanks to the staff at Legacy Village Sugarhouse and Dr. Valarie Jacobs for her loving care.
