With heavy hearts, we share that Irene Trujillo Aleman, 78, of West Valley City, Utah, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Irene was born on May 7, 1948, in Murray, Utah, to Epimenio Trujillo and Eliria Leyba. She was the fourth of seven children. She grew up in Lark, Utah, and graduated from Bingham High School in 1966, carrying with her the strong family values and warmth that would define her life.
On October 22, 1966, Irene married the love of her life, Eloy G. Aleman. Their love and devotion carried them through nearly 60 years of marriage, during which they built a beautiful life together and were blessed with four children. Irene found great joy in being a mother and in caring for her family.
Once her children were in school, she began a 20-year career at Harmons Grocery, where her kindness and friendly spirit touched many. In 2001, she joined the State of Utah Tax Commission, where she formed lasting friendships that remained dear to her throughout her life. She retired in 2014 after years of dedicated service.
Irene was generous to her core and always thought of others before herself. She had a natural sense of style and enjoyed shopping for “sexy” shoes. But what brought her the most happiness was finding something special for someone else, a cute little treasure that made her think of them.
She was very creative and loved making things by hand. She painted ceramics in her earlier years, enjoyed crocheting hand towels, and loved trying new craft ideas she found online. Irene loved camping and fishing and was known for making the best tortillas. She loved to read mystery novels and watch crime shows, but her all-time favorite television series was I Love Lucy. Her license plate proudly read “ILVLUCY,” and it was even autographed by Desi Arnaz Jr.
Irene also loved to travel. Whether it was a quick trip to Wendover, Las Vegas, or the beach, she loved getting dressed up for the adventure. No matter where she went, she spent her time looking for the perfect souvenirs to bring back to her friends and family, always wanting others to feel remembered and loved. Irene also found special ways to honor the people she loved and lost, decorating their graves for every holiday and birthday.
Irene was truly the heart of the Trujillo family. For many years, she lovingly planned large family gatherings for Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, creating memories her family will cherish forever. As the family grew, she began hosting an annual Fourth of July celebration, a tradition she carried on for more than 20 years.
Everything Irene did was centered around her family. She lovingly called all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren “Hito” or “Hita,” her affectionate way of saying “my little son” or “my little daughter” in Spanish. She traveled across the state to cheer on her grandchildren at their sporting events. She was also the only other person who could care for Melissa throughout her life, a role she carried with unwavering love. Irene also babysat her great-grandchildren, who loved being in her care and shared a special bond with her. If you needed Irene, she was there without hesitation. She gave her love freely, and her family always knew they could count on her.
Irene leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love, generosity, strength, and devotion. Her family was the center of her world, and the love she gave so freely will continue to live on in each of them. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
She is survived by her loving husband, Eloy G. Aleman; her children, Jodie (Mike) Caputo, Becky Bradshaw (Dustin Campbell), and Isaac (Brandi) Aleman; her grandchildren, Joseph (Ashley) Caputo, Nicholas (Shantel) Bradshaw, Cheylyn (Joshua) Vickrey, Jordan (Halsey) Caputo, Steven (Raynie) Bradshaw, Julie (Carolina) Caputo, Kyle Bradshaw, Isaac (Jayden) Aleman, William (Madison) Bradshaw; her fourteen cherished great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Nancy Mulder, Delia Van Dijk, Janet Montoya, Eppie (Lyndia) Trujillo, Rosina Trujillo, and Cathy Trujillo.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Epimenio Trujillo and Eliria Leyba; her son, Eloy George Aleman Jr.; her grandchildren, Jacob Caputo and Melissa Aleman; and her great-grandchildren, Christopher Caputo, Landon Caputo, and Allyson Caputo.
A viewing will be held at Redwood Memorial Mortuary, 6500 S. Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah 84123, on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. The funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m., followed by a graveside dedication.
Goodbyes are not forever, and they are not the end. They simply mean we will hold you in our hearts until we meet again.
