J. Wayne Selph

August 22, 1945 — November 13, 2013

On November 13, 2013, J. Wayne Selph of Murray, Utah passed away suddenly in his beloved city of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina due to heart disease. A native South Carolinian from Hartsville, Wayne was born on August 22, 1945 to his late parents Leo Lavern Selph and Vivie LaRue Hines Selph.

Converted at the age of 14, Wayne was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ever since his baptism in 1959. Wayne was a successful student athlete in high school who loved football. Due to his church mission from 1965-67, under Presidents Beck and Hicken, Wayne loved the Brazilian people and culture. An avid Cougar fan and former football team member, Wayne graduated from Brigham Young University in 1968. During high school he was an active ROTC member; after college Wayne joined the Navy for active duty service from 1968-70. He loved his country, our principles of liberty, and was forever proud to be a navyman. In 1970, Wayne enrolled in the Thunderbird School of Global Management to earn a Master of Business Administration. Before he graduated in 1971, Wayne married the love of his life and his eternal companion, Margaret Yara Rex in the Mesa, Arizona Temple. Wayne and Yara are the proud parents of Morgan (Murray, UT), Theran (Columbus, OH), Ethan (Draper, UT), Matthew (Lehi, UT), McKay (Pleasant Grove, UT), Diania (South Jordan, UT), and Christina (Bethesda, MD). Wayne enjoyed an interesting and fulfilling professional career working in St. Louis, New York, Houston, Spartanburg, Sao Paolo, Brazil, and Park City. Wayne ended his career with Selph Communications, Inc. in Salt Lake City where he worked in marketing and advertising. He loved his work and the people with whom he worked. A faithful disciple to the end, Wayne loved the gospel. A high priest, Wayne served the church in various capacities. Always an enthusiastic genealogist and always a missionary; he really loved teaching gospel doctrine. Wayne was predeceased by his parents Leo and Vivie, and his siblings Ronnie L. Selph and C. Janette Selph. Wayne is survived by his wife Yara, his children Morgan (Rebecca) Selph, Theran (Janine) Selph, Ethan (Melissa) Selph, Matthew (Becca) Selph, McKay (Jodi) Selph, Diania (Ben) Dickerson, Christina (Justin) Olsen. While Wayne loved his children, he really loved his grandchildren Brianna, Soren, Caden, Jake, Madsyn, Duncan, Ashton, Izabella, Julianne, Charlotte, Isaac, Matthias, Gideon, Josh, Mckenzie, Emmie, Kaylee, Rex, Finn, Ridley, Yara, Ava, and Savanna.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Ward at 6350 South Rodeo Lane (1540 E.), Murray, UT 84121, where a viewing will be held 9:00-10:30 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow at the Holladay Memorial Cemetery, 4900 S. Memory Lane, Holladay, UT 84117. Messages to the family can be posted at: www.HolbrookMortuary.com
