James Earl Whimpey

August 19, 1938 — September 29, 2023

James Earl Whimpey passed on September 29, 2023, after fighting tirelessly — yet never
complaining — his battle with Parkinson’s and Lewy Body Dementia.

Jim was born on August 19, 1938, in Salt Lake City to his parents Lynn and Edna Whimpey. He spent most of his life in Salt Lake City where he attended South High School. He proudly served in the Army National Guard. He graduated from the University of Utah earning a Bachelor’s in Marketing, then worked 30 plus years for the General Services Administration managing several Federal Buildings throughout the western region of the United States.

Jim was married to his sweetheart Dianne Buchanan on January 29,1964. Together they have four children Mike, Jeff, Scott, and Kendall. Jim and Dianne enjoyed traveling together and camping in their travel trailer. Jim was always up for an adventure, whether it was fishing for salmon in Alaska or trying a new recipe. On game day, he hung his U of U flag for everyone to see. Jim was a big fan of Jazz music and enjoyed the Chicago Bears and Denver Broncos football games. To know Jim was to know that he had a quick witted sense of humor and never passed up an offering of ice cream. He was always giving to others, and was always the first to offer help. Most importantly he was a wonderful husband and father.

Jim is survived by his wife Dianne, his brother Lynn (LuAnne), his children Mark (Debbie), Mike
(Janet), Jeff, Scott (Jennifer) and Kendall (Ross) as well as his Grandchildren and Great
Grandchildren.

Jim is preceded in death by his father Lynn, and his mother Edna, and several of his favorite
dogs.

Dianne and their children would like to extend a loving thank you for all the compassionate
care the staff of Beacon Crest Senior Living provided for Jim in his final days.
