James “Jimmy” Edward Lobato

September 30, 1956 ~ December 11, 2023

James Edward Lobato (Jimmy), age 67, passed away on December 11, 2023, at home in West Valley City, Utah. Jimmy was born on September 30, 1956, in Fruita, Colorado to Leonard J Lobato and Rose Roybal Humes.

Jimmy was the youngest of 8 siblings and was affectionately known by his nieces and nephews as “Uncle J”. To know Jimmy was to love him. He lived life to the beat of his own drum and was always unapologetically his genuine self. He was kind, thoughtful, and always put the needs of those he loved first. He loved to find a good deal at the local grocery store, buy in bulk, and thoughtfully give those items to family and friends without ever asking for anything in return.

Jimmy worked for Murray School District for 37 years as a custodian and recently retired from Riverview Junior High in September 2023. He enjoyed his job, found joy in the many students he met over the years, and loved his fellow coworkers. He missed his work family deeply over the last few months.

Jimmy had a big heart and was loved by all those who were fortunate enough to know him. He loved a good trip to Wendover, had a deep appreciation for all things Elvis, faithfully attended church at St Francis Xavier in Kearns every weekend, and enjoyed spending his days reading the newspaper and spending time with family. He loved cruising around town, “checking things out”, getting to know new people, and sharing fun stories with everyone he met.

Jimmy is survived by siblings Richard (Libbie) Lobato, Catherine (Terry) Camac, Robert Lobato, William Lobato, and sister-in-law Carol Lobato. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who all have a special and unique relationship with Uncle J and will miss him deeply. He is preceded in death by father Leonard J Lobato, mother Rose Roybal Humes, stepfather Donald Humes, and siblings Leonora Barela, Margaret Anne (Luis) Martinez and Dale Lobato.

Jimmy had a very special and close bond with his mother, Rose. There weren’t many days in his life that he didn’t see her and he missed her greatly since her passing in 2020. While his family will miss him tremendously, we find comfort in knowing that they will celebrate Christmas together this year.
