Janet Goble Ratto Padgette, age 89, of West Valley City, passed away on September 20, 2024.
Janet was born on September 21, 1934, in Nephi, Utah, to Louis Charles Ratto and Winona Goble. She married Francis Marion Padgette on March 8, 1957, in Salt Lake City, Utah. They had five children: son Kent (Joann), son Rodney (Kaelynn—deceased), daughter Kay (Kris—deceased), daughter Katherine (Robbie—deceased), and son Alan.
Janet was a loving mother and a tower of strength; she was the backbone of her family. After the death of her husband in 1973, she single-handedly raised five wonderful children. She had an amazing sense of humor and accepted everyone she met with open arms and a kind word. She was incredibly independent, a testament to her strength and resilience. She was an avid family history researcher and indexer, responsible for indexing over a million names in her lifetime. Some of her other hobbies were crafting sewing, and cake decorating. She loved camping and spending time with her family. Janet maintained a tight bond with her three sisters, Mary (Everett) Hatt, Margaret (Terry) Peterson, and Louise (Jim) Spralding, even meeting for a monthly lunch until her passing.
Janet is survived by her five children, 12 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and three sisters.
Her enduring memory will live with each of us who knew her. She was a pillar of strength that anchored her family through tragedy. Her calm resolve and quiet love for all guided her family through the challenges and celebrations of life.
