Janice Gwen Boswell, 69, of West Jordan, Utah, passed away surrounded by family on September 17, 2024. Janice is survived by her King Charles Spaniel, Hazel, who never left her side; her seven children, Jenifer Gozart (Jake), Jason Fishback, Justin Fishback (Elizabeth Board), Julie Roberts, Jonathan Fishback, Jared Fishback (Sara), and Jeffrey Fishback; seven brothers, William Boswell (Kathy), Kenneth Boswell, Keith Boswell (Jeanette), Denis Boswell (Kim), Brent Boswell (Barbara), Craig Boswell (Connie), and Gary Boswell (Tonya); and 14 grandchildren. Janice is preceded in death by her parents, Evan Boswell and Lona Evans.
Janice was born August 12, 1955 in Provo, Utah, and grew up in South Salt Lake where she graduated from Granite High School in 1973. Janice lived in Warrenton, Virginia for a short time in her 20’s before moving back to Utah to raise her children in the Salt Lake City area. She was a stay-at-home mom for several years before entering the workforce, and spent the last two decades in an administrative role with the State of Utah’s Department of Health and Human Services.
Janice was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She devoted much of her life to her church, particularly the youth programs. Many hours were happily spent over the years playing practical jokes at Girls Camp and coaching Young Women’s sports. Janice loved the outdoors and all things sports, especially basketball. She was a small, but mighty force to be reckoned with on the court. No doubt she would still be shooting hoops well into old age had cancer not cut her life short.
Janice was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be remembered by her friends and family as a kind and selfless soul who often put the needs of others above her own. Acts of service was her love language.
A visitation for Janice will be held on Monday, October 7, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Memorial Mountain View Mortuary and Cemetery, 3115 Bengal Blvd, Cottonwood Heights. All who knew her are welcome to attend. Graveside services will follow, reserved for family and close friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to donate to a reputable breast cancer research fund and reminds you to get your annual health screenings.
