Janice Marie Johnson Hatch

August 7, 1932 — August 4, 2023

Janice Marie Johnson Hatch passed away early in the morning August 4, 2023, just three days shy of her 91st birthday. Guess she wanted a birthday celebration with her family in Heaven.
Janice was affectionately known in our family as grandma Jam, because a two-year-old grandchild couldn’t say grandma Jan and, and she said “that was close enough.”
Janice was born August 7, 1932 to Vera Lavon Phillips and Charles Willard Johnson, Jr. in Salt Lake City where she grew up in their avenue home. The family moved to Woods Cross where she got to be around horses and rode them all over Woods Cross, developing a deep love for horses. Janice moved to Yakima, Washington to live with her grandparents Clara and Sydney Phillips. She graduated from Yakima High School in 1951 and moved back to Salt Lake City to live with her sister Shirley, when their mother Vera remarried Edmond Lessard.
Janice was a very talented artist and won 1st place in a contest where she painted their horses.
Janice met and married Kenneth Earl Hatch January 16, 1954 and raised eight children together until they divorced May of 1975.
Janice is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has a strong love for her family and has had many close friends. Janice always said, “family is where it’s at!”
Janice had many jobs over the years and ended up in the home healthcare industry with IHC. She was a home health care aid and had many clients she became close friends with. Mom always said she had angels placed in her life just at the right time for whatever she needed.
Janice is survived by: Bonnie Sharp (Paul), Boyd Hatch, Barbara Thomas (Max), Bernice Mecham, Bonita Larsen (Gary), Brigett Ehlers (Bryan), Brad Hatch. 23 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren with one on the way.
Preceded in death by baby brother Charles Willard Johnson III, mother, Vera Lavon Phillips, father Charles Willard Johnson, Jr., sister Shirley Barnum, son Bud Earl Hatch and granddaughter Brandi Nicole Hatch.
