Jeffrey McDaniel

Jeffrey McDaniel, 76, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2026, in Draper, Utah, following a long battle with dementia. He was born on May 13, 1950, in Portland, Oregon, to Knox McDaniel and Joy Laurin.

Jeff had a life filled with accomplishment, adventure, family, and many passions. As a young man, he was a successful swimmer, competing for East High School as a state champion and continuing his swimming career at the University of Utah. After graduating from college, he became a successful Certified Public Accountant and Auditor.

Jeff eventually took over his father Knox's animal nutrition business, the Knox McDaniel Company, and significantly expanded the company during his time at the helm. After successfully selling the business, he was able to retire early and devote more time to the people and activities he loved.

Jeff had a love for life and enjoyed many activities. He especially loved playing golf and took numerous golf trips around the world with friends and family. He also enjoyed attending sporting events, skiing, playing tennis, and playing his guitar. Music was especially meaningful to him, and he enjoyed sharing his love of music with his sons. He also adored his cat, Norman.

Those who knew Jeff will remember him for his quick sense of humor, his accomplishments, his love of adventure, and the many memories he created with his family and friends.

Jeff is survived by his wife Thilagavathi Murugesan, sons, Sean and Joseph McDaniel; and his stepson, Michael Andrus. He was preceded in death by his parents, Knox McDaniel and Joy Laurin, and his brother, David McDaniel.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Ashford of Draper for their outstanding care of Jeff during the final chapter of his life.

A graveside service will be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery on September 22nd  The service will be followed by a small gathering at the McDaniel household (222 S 1200 E Salt Lake City, UT), where friends and loved ones are invited to remember Jeff and celebrate his life. Interment will take place at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
