Our dear wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Jeniel Loree Powell, passed away peacefully at her home on February 10, 2024 after a short battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family and was excited to reunite with her mom and her heavenly sons and many loved ones on the other side.
Jeniel was born in Salt Lake City on January 12, 1947 to George Whitley and Amy Springer Whitley. She grew up in the Salt Lake area and graduated from Skyline High School in 1965.
Her 10 children were her greatest joy. She made every birthday and holiday special. She loved to crochet, needlepoint, and scrapbook, but especially loved to organize family gatherings. She enjoyed temple work and genealogy. She was often found playing games with her grandkids.
Her relationship with her dear spouse, Dahl Powell, began with a 9-kid package but they made time for each other through special trips and going to the temple on Friday nights. They were blessed to add one more child, Jennifer, to the bunch. Our mom always took care of her neighbors and had many special relationships with friends.
Jeniel is survived by Dahl Powell (spouse), Carol Anderson (sister), Nancy Whitley (sister-in-law) and children: Jimmy (Marie) Powell, Ora Mae Powell, Julie (Jeff) Dall, Vida (Sil) Powell, Duane Powell, Tammy Turner, Lonny Powell, Carma (late Scott) Parks, Cindy (Shawn) Soderquist, Jennifer (Mike) Colbert, and 26 grandkids.
She is preceded in death by George and Amy Whitley (parents), George Whitley (brother), Sheron Flaster (sister), and Scott Parks (son-in-law).
