Kearns

Jennean Spencer Bean Dale passed away peacefully on November 16, 2025 at the age of 80 years old in her grandson’s home in Kearns, Utah.

She was born on October 11, 1945, in Chicago, Illinois, to James William Bean and Naoma Spencer. The family lived in Chicago till their mother’s death. Their father moved her siblings, Janis, Jimmy, Joanne, and her back to Salt Lake to live with their grandmother, Jessie Ruth Maxwell and their aunt Jessie Bean, on 4th Avenue.

Her father married again in 1950, to Harriet Gowens, and the family moved to a home on 2nd Avenue where two more siblings were born, Betty and Barbara.

She attended East High School until she dropped out and attended beauty school. This is where she met her first husband, Edward Nachio Ortega. They married and had 3 surviving children Edward Nachio Jr., Shawn Manuel, and Tiffanie Monique.

Jennean and her husband bought land and built a beauty salon in Kearns, Utah. They established a successful business that became a strong presence in the community, which allowed them to sponsor several youth sports teams in the area.

After living in several different communities, the family finally settled in Coalville, Utah after her husband suffered debilitating injuries sustained in a train/vehicle collision.

During the next few years, Jennean struggled to keep the beauty salon in Kearns running, help her husband with his recovery, and raise her children. Eventually, they would divorce. However, prior to their divorce, our mom took us on an extended trip. She wanted to give us the experience of traveling to the East Coast to visit her parents who were on a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Independence, Missouri. Then we traveled to Pensacola, FL to visit our aunt. While in Florida, mom took us over to New Orleans. On this trip, our mom wanted us to travel on several forms of travel. So, we flew East, then rode on Amtrak, rode a Greyhound bus and in a sports car.

After this trip, our parents separated. However, it took two year to divorce. During these years, our finances were really tight. During these years we learned how to live on our food storage. Mom tried really hard to do fun stuff with us and took us to do some fun activities. She had us learn how to ski and ice skate, and she took us bowling. We spent time doing a lot of things together, such as playing games, canning, and camping.

A few years after the divorce she remarried. After her marriage, she began a new job out of town where she traveled every day. Eventually, she applied and was hired to manage the local liquor store. She enjoyed working there for several years. After the graduation of her youngest child and her second divorce, she applied to work for the Department of Transportation at the UT/WY port of entry.

A few years later, she transferred to the UT/AZ port of entry and moved to St. George. She worked there until she retired.

After she retired, she began to work for Cracker Barrel. A few years later, she became a snowbird and moved to Salt Lake City during the summer months so that she could be closer to her children and grandchildren.

Mom has always loved animals and has had various pets. She was always very faithful and diligent about their care.

In addition to Jennean’s three children, Edward, Shawn (Lisa) and Tiffanie (Jonathan), she has 5 grandchildren and 1 great grandson.

Jennean also has 3 surviving sisters and 1 sister-in-law.

We want to give a special acknowledgement to Cary and Tammie Glade (St George) for their continual help and support to our mom when we could not be there.

We would also like to thank James (Spence) and Karen Bean for their help with her home in Salt Lake City.
