Jeremiah J Stratton

December 24, 1974 — March 2, 2023

Jeremiah J Stratton aged 48 years, died on Thursday 2nd of March 2023 in the home he had for over a decade in Salt Lake City with his wife. He was born on the 24th of December 1974 in Cottonwood Hospital in Salt Lake. He married Skyler Bjørg Hjelm Stratton on the 21st of August 1998 in Midway, Utah.
He enjoyed being an uncle and being close to his family, forgoing opportunities elsewhere to stay close by. Although he left singing behind, for the most part, in high school and college; he always loved music and went to concerts as often as he could. Jeremiah was also a lover of good food and went on more than one quest to find the best burger he could. That love of food pointed to a new direction in his career when he left the office life of being a corporate trainer, tried another job and finally settled at Harmon’s.
He started learning about cheese and found he loved it. Nearly every day he would come home with a new fact or story about cheese and what he was doing. He was accepted into the community of cheese, charcuterie and chocolate in Utah and was able to study, test for, and earn the American Cheese Society Certified Cheese Professional appellation which helped him discover how much he loved travelling. Between everything else, he
practiced photography and found passion in working with Skyler and models to create dramatic scenes. He
discovered, in the last several years, that he loved his season tickets for Ballet West and was frequently a bit starstruck when he met one of the ballerinas or ballerinos in Harmon’s or at FanX.
Anyone who knew Jeremiah knew how much he loved everything to do with sci-fi, fantasy and comics. He would have deep conversations about the morality or soap opera style drama of characters in books, comics and movies. He also had a lifelong love of soap operas for men, ie: Professional wrestling, in the wrassling sense, not going to the Olympics. He started being a Dungeon Master, leading the game of Dungeons and Dragons or Shadowrun, in high school and continued that tradition of torture to pass on the fun and imagination to his niece and nephews.
He is survived by his mom and dad, Nancy and Ken Stratton; his siblings, Kellie Larsen and her husband Allen, Rick Stratton, Angela Brooks and her husband Chris, Kim Clyde and her husband Kelly, James Smith and his wife Maggie, and Jennifer Stratton. He also leaves behind his wife, Skyler Hjelm Stratton; his in-laws, Bill and Nanette Hjelm; and siblings on that side: Rodney and Deana Hjelm, Johanna and Adam Fugal, and Alexis and Jace Hodgson. He will be remembered by his menagerie of nieces and nephews, just as he cherished them, right down to the brand new Ruby. He talked frequently about meeting her.
Jeremiah is preceded in death by his grandparents, Hyrum and Vera Smith; his nephew, Travis Batterbee; and his father, Terry Smith.
