Jerree Ann Sproul Crouch

April 27, 1933 — April 25, 2024

Jerree Ann Sproul Crouch passed away on April 25, 2024, just two days shy of her 91st birthday, while under hospice care in West Valley, UT.

She was born at home in Salt Lake City to Leonard and Velva Chidester Sproul. The first of three children.   When she was eighteen, fresh out of high school, she married the boy next door, Jack Elza Higgins. They were married for sixteen years and had three sons together.

Jerree was single and struggling for a long time. After graduating from the U of U, she took in and helped raise her treasured niece and nephew, a child from the Indian Placement program, and two foster children, who were siblings.

In 1988 Jerree met and married Morris Crouch. They soon moved to St. George and enjoyed being empty nesters there. Jerree was embraced as a mother & grandmother by Morris’ family, especially those who lived nearby. She loved them and appreciated their help.  Her friends and neighbors were very important to her too. She enjoyed the many visits by loved ones.

Jerree was able to explore her artistic side while living in Bloomington. She enjoyed writing and won competitions and awards worldwide for her poetry. She loved to water color. The painting of portraits was her favorite. She also enjoyed embroidering pictures of birds …from patterns she’d created.

She was proud to be part of several local groups including the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, the League of Utah Writers, the Utah Poetry Society, and Heritage Writers Guild.

Morris passed in 2010, making it more difficult for Jerree to do a lot of things she once enjoyed. After another visit to the local hospital, followed by a six-week stint in rehab, Jerree was informed that she could not go home. She needed constant attention. In September of 2022, Jerree returned to the Salt Lake valley to be closer to family and get the help she needed.

Jerree is survived by her children: Charles (Lisa) Higgins, Terry Higgins, and Reese Higgins; Christi “Saara” (Steve) Grizzell and Scott Terry; Her stepchildren: Joan (Val) Langston, Peggy (Kevin) Rudd, Connie Lemme, and Dr. Max (Vickie) Crouch. Her foster children: La Rue Jensen and Brian (Bonnie) Orgill… and all of their children and grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her brother Murry Sproul, her sister Carol Lynn Terry, her husband Morris Crouch, stepdaughter Ranae Olsen, and IP son Jack Holiday.
