Jerry Reed 1950 2023

Our much loved father, husband, papa, brother, uncle, and friend passed away surrounded by family on the morning of March 20, 2023, after a three-year battle with colon cancer. Jerry was born on November 27,1950, in South Salt Lake to Margaret (Nettie) Powell Reed and Claude Vernon Reed. He attended and graduated from Granite High School in 1969. He loved his high school years participating as a cheerleader and in madrigals and theatre. He cherished his classmates always and maintained many of these friendships throughout his life. He planned and collaborated with them on their many class reunions.
After high school, Jerry was called to serve an LDS mission in Spain. Following his mission, he attended Weber State University studying real estate. He had a successful career as a real estate agent and broker in the Salt Lake area for over 50 years. He loved being a REALTOR! He was a very devoted agent and would drop everything to help his clients. He was one of the first people in the community to own a mobile phone. He created a mobile office in his car complete with printer and computer. He had an industrious mind that was always looking for ways to improve things and make them more efficient or practical. He delighted in utilizing new technological innovation the moment it hit the market or putting together personal inventions of his own.
In July of 1981, Jerry fell in love and married Shelley Burton Reed. They became the parents of two beautiful daughters who brought them great joy and happiness. They settled in Sandy, Utah, and Jerry was a very dedicated father. He was outgoing, friendly, and a no-nonsense type of guy. He loved being around people. He could talk to anyone. Jerry had a contagious smile and when he laughed everybody laughed, making him easy to detect in a crowded room. His nieces and nephews loved to be with him, and he loved them. Their fondest memories are of him watching TV with them and laughing so hard they all laughed. He felt deeply and was profoundly moved by beautiful singing, movies, theatre, and life. His favorite pastimes were being with people he loved, attending grandchildren’s or nephews ball games, U of U football, Jazz basketball, and spending quality time going to lunch or on vacations with friends and family.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Shelley Burton Reed, his daughters, Jennifer (Bruce Wayne Jr.) Spitzer and Michelle Reed (William Thompson), his much-adored grandchildren, Zoe Scarlett and Benjamin Spitzer, Brothers Don Reed and John Nash, Sister Elaine Torgerson and their families, as well as many wonderful friends and extended family. He is predeceased by his parents and siblings Merilyn Collins and Dick Reed and nephew Kerry Torgerson.
