Jill Hale Gaillard passed away peacefully on Friday March 8, 2024, surrounded by family, leaving behind a legacy of love, warmth, and cherished memories. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose kindness touched the lives of all who knew her.
Born on July 1, 1943, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Ellsworth Hale and Dorothy Bair Hale. Jill was a special woman with special talents that were often not recognized by society. In spite of her challenges she grew up to embody the true spirit of generosity and compassion. In September 1964 she met Donald Gaillard, who became her eternal companion on December 19, 1964 in the Manti Utah temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Jill’s home was a haven of love and laughter, where family and friends were always welcomed with open arms and delicious food. Coming from a family of culinary entrepreneurs, Jill’s passion for cooking was fostered by working in her father’s bakery, Hale Bakery. There she mastered baking, cake decorating, and cooking and was loved by the staff for cooking their meals. Cooking was more than just a passion for Jill; it was a way of expressing her loving and nurturing spirit. Whether it was her Rice Crispy Chicken, or her Rice Ca-ca, everyone had a favorite recipe, and when she found out what it was you loved, you could be sure she was going to make it.
But beyond her culinary talents, one of her unique gifts was the ability to make everyone feel special and loved. She made friends with both the old and young, and especially loved children. Her genuine interest in others and her endless capacity for empathy endeared her to all who crossed her path. Jill was one of the most giving people you would ever know. She was always watching out for the needs of her family and friends and would strive to help in whatever way she could. Whether it was pinching your cheeks, a kind word, or a homemade meal, she never missed an opportunity to show how much she cared.
Jill loved to travel, but once she saw it, she was done, and she wanted to shop. She was an avid shopper, with an eye for quality, and great prices.
Jill is survived by her beloved husband; Donald Gaillard; her children, Shaun (Collette), Kimm (Angela), Michelle (Samuel), Jeramie (Laura). She was the loving grandmother to 36 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Hunter (Ida), Richard (Mary), Jackie, and Janie.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Ellsworth and Dorothy Hale, and her sister Sally.
Jill, 11:11 We love you.
