Joani Farnsworth Cannon peacefully returned to her Heavenly Father on June 3, 2026, at Sunrise Senior Living in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was 80 years old.
Joani was born on January 27th, 1946, in Cedar City, Utah, to Dr. Reed and Ethel Farnsworth. She was raised alongside her three brothers, Jerry, Kent, and David. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Brigham Young University, and on June 11th, 1970, she married Michael Cannon in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they built a loving home and raised their four children in Los Alamos, New Mexico.
Joani had a deep love for creativity and graphic art, and she generously shared her talents by designing logos for many local organizations. She also devoted countless hours to the schools in her community, where she taught art and read with children of all ages, touching many lives with her kindness and encouragement.
She also served as a board member of the Family Strengths Network in Los Alamos and was a devoted member of her local LDS congregation, where she served faithfully in many callings throughout her life.
Joani’s grandchildren were at the very heart of her life. She found great joy in creating opportunities for them to read, learn, and grow, and she delighted in every chance to be playful, make them laugh, and fill their lives with love.
Joani is reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Michael Cannon, and her cherished grandchildren, Katheryn Jardine and Carson Cannon.
She is lovingly remembered by her children, Tom and Sally Cannon; Becky and James Jardine; Reed and Heidi Cannon; and Matt and Teri Cannon. She will also be deeply missed by her grandchildren, Savannah (and Dallin), Sydney (and Caden), Zackary, Summer, Zoey, Chelsea, Sam, Mo, Caleb (and Charity), Maia, Max, Kylie, Jason, and Ian, as well as her great-grandchildren, Sophie, Penny, and Brie.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 18, at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS chapel located at 1970 East Stratford Avenue, 2560 South, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
