JoAnn Smith Vincent

September 1, 1938 — October 31, 2025

JoAnn Smith Vincent passed away peacefully, to join her loving husband Gerald, on October 31, 2025, at the Beehive House of South Jordan.

JoAnn was born on September 1, 1938, on the kitchen table at 644 east 600 south Salt Lake City, Utah to Margaret Kiepe and Joseph Alvin Smith. Her father died in March of 1941 after sustaining injuries from being hit by a car on the Saltair Highway. Margaret later married Edmund DuBois. They lived on Adams Street where she had daily chores including taking care of chickens, ducks, turkeys, and rabbits. They also had a large garden and apple trees.

She attended Granite High School, where she especially loved helping in the library and being a member of the choir. Her love of music, including classical pieces and sacred hymns, brought her comfort and joy throughout her life. Gerald and JoAnn were married on January 11, 1957. Her employment included being a nanny and working in a florist shop in Salt Lake City. Later, she managed condos and worked in two jewelry shops in Park City. She and Gerald owned a Tack & Feed store in Park City for three years. She loved to read, sew, and garden. However, her greatest love was substitute teaching.

Their home was a place of welcome to many foster children and Japanese exchange students over the years. JoAnn had a great appreciation for the arts and was fond of the theatre and musicals. She loved to travel. The family traveled to California many times to visit relatives. They also traveled to Hawaii and England. Her and Gerald shared many adventures together, including Panama Canal, Mexico, Israel, Maine and the East Coast, Germany, France, Nova Scotia, Alabama, New Orleans, Texas, Arizona, Washington State, Nauvoo, Mount Rushmore, Kentucky.

A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, JoAnn found strength in her faith. She visited the temple often and served faithfully in many callings, including ward chorister, primary teacher, scout leader, and various positions in the relief society. She and Gerald also served together at the LDS Conference Center on Temple Square.

JoAnn is survived by her children Carolyn Ramos (James), Linda Peterson (Scott), Sue Crittenden (Bob), Doug Vincent (Sherri); and by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents Margaret and Joseph, her stepfather Eddie, and her four sisters, Lorraine, Marjorie, Leone, and Dorothy. We express a deep and sincere gratitude to the employees and staff at Beehive House of South Jordan for their loving care and kindness.
