Joe E. Marriott passed away peacefully on January 12, 2026, in Sandy, Utah at 79 years of age. He was happiest when he was busy, especially when that meant lending a hand to someone else. Joe was a kind and thoughtful neighbor, colleague, and loved one whose quiet generosity touched many lives.
Joe was a gifted engineer, mentor, and leader. He joined Hewlett-Packard in 1969 after earning a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Utah and later completed his Master’s degree at Colorado State University. Over decades at HP’s Loveland, Colorado facility, he became a key contributor to measurement and test technologies that helped shape modern electronics. Known for his precision, integrity, and brilliant problem-solving, Joe held 16 patents, a testament to a mind that never stopped refining and improving the world around him.
Joe found deep joy in the outdoors. He loved hiking in the Rocky Mountains, a passion he passed on to his daughter from the time her legs were barely long enough to keep up. He spent countless hours cycling and maintained his bike with the same care and attention he gave to every vehicle he ever owned.
Above all, Joe was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He shared a deep and caring partnership with his wife of 56 years, Carla, and took great pride in his daughter, Tina, and granddaughter, Kendra. He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and June Marriott. He will be interred next to them in his hometown of Ogden. He didn’t want people to make a fuss by having a funeral; there will be a small graveside service in the spring.
Joe’s life was marked by a love of learning, a commitment to teaching others, and a steady desire to make the world better. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of walking alongside him.
