It is with great sadness that we announce the recent passing of Joe T. Martinez Jr. Husband, Dad, Grandpa, and Great Grandpa. He passed away peacefully in his sleep early Wednesday morning, January 7th surrounded by his loving family. Joe is survived by his wife, Pat, son, Anthony, and daughters, Rachel, Erika, and Brittany. He has 11 grandchildren, and one great granddaughter who he loves with all his heart.
He was born in Montrose, Colorado, November 1, 1941 to Joe T Martinez, and Grace Gallegos. He met the love of his life Patricia Cardona at the age of 15 and they later married at the age of 17, December 23, 1958. He then joined the Army and served for four years. He worked and retired from the FAA after 35 years as the Manager of the Airways Facilities Division.
Along with spending time with family and friends, Joe had a passion for fishing, golfing, playing rummy with family, and doing crossword puzzles. Luck was a constant companion of his, and, combined with his passion, he excelled at what he loved. More than anything, he enjoyed being with his loving wife of 67 years as they just celebrated on December 23, 2025.
He was a very kind and generous man, and was willing to help anyone in need. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him.
Mass will be held Saturday, January 24th at Noon at St. Patrick’s Catholic church (1058 West 400 South, Salt Lake City, UT 84104). His service will be at the Memorial Estates mortuary on Redwood Road at 1 PM, followed by a burial service at 2:30 PM. (6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah 84123)
A poem written by Erika about our Dad
Lighthouse
Strong and stable,
leading with love,
guiding us to do good
and always there to rely on for safety even on dark days and through storms,
his light always led us back to a safe place.
Even though he is not physically here now,
his love will always guide us,
and when it’s our time to leave this earth,
he will be waiting for us standing,
strong and shining his light and love to help guide us home.
