Joel Ray Gunnell

Our beloved Joel returned home to his Heavenly Father on August 21st, 2010. He was born June 25th, 1954 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Francis Ray Poppleton Gunnell and Ireta Nova Stewart.

After graduating from Olympus High School in 1972, he attended and graduated from Denver Automotive and Diesel College. Joel was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving a 2 year mission in the Barcelona Spain Mission and in many other callings throughout his life.

Joel felt like the highlight of his life was marrying Carolyn Derbidge in the Salt Lake Temple and having 5 beautiful daughters. He loved them very much and dedicated his life to providing for his family.

He was an excellent mechanic, working many years at UTA and helping many friends and family with their cars. He loved camping, fishing, sports and spending time with his family. We will always remember his tender, caring heart and his willingness to help others. We love and miss you so much Joel.

Survived by- Father: Ray (Verda) Gunnell; Brothers: Paul Gunnell, Robert (Christine) Gunnell; Sisters: Suzanne (Steve) Welling, Karen Bell; Daughters: Terrie (Dustin) Kemp, Brenda (Jacob) Smith, Julie (Mitch) Cox, Jeni Gunnell, and Carolyn Sally Gunnell. 5 Grandchildren and many dear cousins, nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his mother Ireta Gunnell and his sister Debra Sheehan

Services will be held on Friday, August 27th at 11:00 A.M. at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, Salt Lake City, Utah. Friends and family may call From 9:30-10:30 A.M. at Holbrook Mortuary prior to the funeral service. Interment at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, Utah.
