Joe Heinrich Glockmann

May 14, 1940 — September 20, 2023

Joerg Heinrich Glockmann, 83, passed away on September 20, 2023 at a hospital in Murray, Utah. Born May 14, 1940 in the house of his grandparents in Doeberitz (Berlin), Germany as Joerg Heinrich Glockmann, he spent the first years of his life at the agricultural farm of his grandparents. At the end of WW2 in 1945, his mother Herta took refuge with her three small children. Joe was 5 years old when he had to see his 7-week-old twin sisters die while fleeing from Berlin. In Bad Kreuznach Joe’s mother found work and accommodations and Joe started school. He was a brilliant student and was popular with the other students and teachers. He showed very early preferences in technical classes.

At the age of 19, Joe joined the “German Bundeswehr” for three years in the navy. His highlight was his time at the ship “Gorch Fock.” Experiencing new countries and visiting people from all over the world, Joe found out that he wanted to live in America and become an American citizen.  He emigrated in 1965. He was full of passion in his job as a precision mechanic.

Joe always loved animals, especially his dogs he saved from the animal shelter, and he supported animal welfare organizations. Even though he lived at “the other side of the world,” he always stayed in contact with his friends and family in Germany. He was a faithful soul, working in the same company in Bountiful for more than 33 years before he switched to work in another company in Salt Lake City for a few years. He was a resident of Sandy, Utah for 35 years. After retirement, Joe enjoyed fishing and hunting with friends in the Rocky Mountains.

A very special thank you goes to Joe’s loving friends, who supported him so much.

Joe’s final resting place is next to his mother’s grave at Memorial Mountain View Cemetery, 3115 East 7800 South, Cottonwood Heights, Utah. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at 1:00 PM.
