John David “Dave” Bartlett

May 15, 1961 — January 2, 2023

David was a sweet and gentle soul with a wicked wit and immeasurable sense of humor. This gift made the years of his suffering more tolerable for all who cared for him, and especially blessed his darling wife, Shara who has given her ALL to care for him, advocate for him, provide for him, accompany him, add value to his life, and love him TOTALLY.
Dave passed away peacefully at his home on January 2, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer and complications from a stroke. He was born on May 15, 1961, in Ogden, Utah to John Merlin Bartlett and Marilyn Elise Simmons.
Dave was always the happiest kid, who brought sunshine with him everywhere he went. He was a very curious person with an inquisitive mind. As he grew older, he developed many hobbies and interests that included: skate boarding, skiing, bicycling, spending time outdoors, reading, being an amazing chef, and of course playing the guitar. His hobbies provided for remarkable opportunities that allowed him to travel and see the world before he settled down.
During his time in Alaska, Dave met Emma and together they had their son, Jacob. Dave was an extraordinary father who did everything he could to make the best life possible for Jacob. Some of his most favorite times included building models and radio-controlled cars with Jacob. In 2013, Dave met the love of his life, Shara Layton, and her son Jaden. They were later married on February 4, 2016, and began their extended family together.
Dave attended technical college to become a motorcycle mechanic. He also studied drafting. He began his career at Innovative Precision as a Lead Quality Inspector, where he would program CMM machines that manufactured parts for the aerospace and defense industries. Dave loved his career and spent 15 years in the profession where he had built many friendships that will last a lifetime.
Dave is survived by his wife Shara, sons: Jacob and Jaden. Sisters: Joy Canfield, Patty Thomas, and Kati Hunter, his brother; Eli Simmons and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Bruce and Tom, and his nephew Josh.
