John Albert Hall, beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend died due to cardiac arrest on November 27, 2008. He was born to his father and namesake, John Albert Hall, and mother, Lorreine Greene Hall, on January 23, 1934 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He left this world on a high note: loving and enjoying the company of his family and friends, still celebrating the U of U football team's '08 perfect winning season, and feeling abundant and grateful for the blessings in his life. John's family moved to southern California when he was 2 years old. It was there he grew up, honed his innate aptitude for math, science, and logic; excelled at baseball, track and football; graduated from Montebello High School (1952); married Phyllis Maureen Waite (1953-74); became the father of four children; and began a career as a draftsman. For a time, John and his growing family lived in Bozeman, Montana while he took engineering courses at Montana State University. Later, the family moved back to California where John began working in the instrumentation industry, a career that lasted 30+ years. In 1968 the family moved to Bountiful, Utah, where John fulfilled his dream of owning and operating his own business. He served as president of Process Instruments and Controls, Inc., a successful manufacturer's representative firm, for 24 years before he semi-retired in 1992. John also attended Westminster College in Salt Lake City and graduated with a BS degree in business in 1985. Always industrious, he was thrilled to work as part of the transportation team for the 2002 SLC Winter Olympics and also enjoyed his employment at Wackenhut for the past 5 years. John married Sandra Stapley on November 28, 1987 and also became a step-father to her three children. John and Sandy have lived in Bountiful, St. George, Oak City, and Murray, Utah. Together they have enjoyed genealogy, travelling, home projects, and being devoted to each other. John also liked golfing, sports (any kind), good movies, trying new restaurants, solving cross-word puzzles in the morning paper, and watching out for all of his family members. He was a favorite lap sitter to the dogs and cats who were lucky enough to live with him. John is survived by his wife and best friend of 21 years, Sandra; children Carrie Reece (Charlie), John Hall (Michelle), Scott Hall (Jane), Kelley Hall (Kathy), and Drue Hall; step-children Heidi Watson, Chris Stapley (Sabrina), and Martin Stapley (Lia), 19 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sisters Iris Smith, Nancy Acosta, and Judy Waite; and mother-in-law Marge Midgley (his favorite mid-week movie date). He is preceded in death by his parents. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Holbrook Mortuary, 3521 South 2300 East, Salt Lake City, Utah. At his request, John will be interred at Murray City Cemetery following a private service later in the day. Online condolences may be sent to the family at: www.holbrookmortuary.com. The family appreciates and thanks all who have enriched John's life with friendship, love, and caring. God's blessings to all.
