John Mcmullin Worthen

July 21, 1935 — August 28, 2023

John McMullin Worthen died on August 28, 2023. He was born on July 21, 1935 to Joseph Manly Worthen and Leone McMullin Worthen. John was a twin and the last surviving of 12 children.
John married the love of his life, Vicki Jo Peterson, on February 11, 1966, in the Salt Lake Temple.  They shared 57 amazing years together.  They were dedicated above all to their children and their faith.  John had a universal love for all mankind.
He was always friendly to everyone he came in contact with.  He has a strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and was a proud member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  His faith and relationship with his Heavenly Father and the Savior was the foundation of his life.  John served honorable as a missionary in the northern CA mission.  John has a strong testimony of the law of tithing and frequently asked his kids to make sure they paid their tithes and attended church meetings.
John’s favorite pastime was hunting golf balls.  All of his children and many of his grandchildren have fond memories of spending hours looking for balls at Mountain Dell and Bonneville Golf courses.  John loved to save money and often said the Lord through the Holy Ghost inspired him with creative ways to save money.  As mom would say, he always had “pots” of money and change.  To his last breath, he was excited that he was able to save money to help support mom when he died.  Sometimes he would even make extra sandwiches to sell at work to save change and extra dollars.
John was a dedicated employee for Dixon Paper Company.  He spent 35 years consistently going to work and would love any opportunity to work “overtime”.  He spent another 23 years working for his son and actually worked the morning before he entered the hospital.   He was a model employee – easy to get along with and never called in sick.
Dad loved to play with his grandchildren.  Up until he passed, he was found playing with the grandkids and great grandchildren. He loved to run, play, and spend time outside at the park or in the yard.  Dad loved good food and above all loved mom’s homecooked meals.  Dad loved to build others up through kind words and compliments.  He was selfless with his time and loved every opportunity to help his children and grandchildren and would frequently serve the neighbors by taking out the trash and shoveling snow.  He loved playing and watching sports and one of his greatest loves was golf and basketball.  He loved to bless others lives with spontaneous gifts.  He will be dearly missed by all those who were touched by his kind heart and loving smile.
Surviving John is his wife, Vicki Jo Worthen; children: Mindi (Dave) Baumann, Trent (Mindy) Worthen, Jason (Stacee) Worthen, and Marci (Kenny) Reed; grandsons: Tyler Baumann, Sean Taylor-Baumann, Collin Baumann, Chandler Reed, Calvin Reed, Nicholas Worthen, Ethan Worthen, Tanner Stratton, Curtis Larsen, Marco Johns, Jake Taylor-Baumann, and Cole Worthen; granddaughters: Courtney Larsen, Ashley Johns, Rylee Steyee, Emma Worthen, Ellee Stratton, Kennedi Reed, Haley Reed, Madison Baumann, Sabrina Baumann, Shae Worthen, Taya Devroom, Jayden Devroom, and Alexa Worthen; 16 great-grandchildren and an additional baby on the way!
