Obituary

John M Suazo, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on March 14, 2026, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Born on October 17, 1932, in Alamosa, Colorado.

John’s early years were shaped by his military service. Inducted into the army on November 12, 1952, he bravely served during the Korean War, an experience that earned him the distinguished Bronze Star. His commitment to service was matched by his spirit of adventure and hard work, which led him overseas for significant periods—four years in Vietnam working in construction from 1968 to 1972, two years in China, and an additional two years working in Africa. Through these chapters, John displayed unwavering resilience and a tireless work ethic that defined much of his life.

In 1951, John married the love of his life, Shirley Witt. Together, they built a family and shared many cherished moments. Throughout his life, John was deeply passionate about genealogy, often tracing and celebrating his family's roots. He also found joy in golfing and was an avid fan of the Raiders football.

John is survived by his son, John J Suazo, and daughter, Anita Bench. Two beloved grandchildren, Joshua and Alexis, and great-grandchildren, Shelby and Wolfgang, and his brother Sam.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; his son, Stephen; his parents, Daniel and Rebecca Suazo; his brothers Victor, Pat, Lionel, and David; and his sister, Liz Suazo.

A Graveside Service will be held on March 19, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Memorial Redwood Cemetery, located at 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah. Family, friends, and all who were touched by John’s story are invited to gather to honor a man whose life was a testament to courage, commitment, and care.

He will be deeply missed but forever remembered with profound love and respect.
