Johnny (Juanito) A. Gonzales

Johnny A. Gonzales, 84, was born in Llano de San Juan, New Mexico, on August 25, 1941. Johnny passed away at home peacefully surrounded by his family on July 17, 2026, after a long battle with dementia. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Johnny Graduated from Bingham High School in 1961. He was a dedicated employee of Denver Rio Grande Railroad (later Union Pacific) and retired after working 23 years with the railroad.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Adonay and Margarita Gonzales; brothers Joe, Moises, Patricio, Arnold, and Luciano; sisters Lila Padilla, Rufina Griego, Demetria Martinez, and Rachel Fernandez; and multiple brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Johnny was a happy, fun, loving man who greeted everyone with a hug and a smile. His passion for his family was always first. He enjoyed playing pool and bingo and being at family events. He took pride in working on and cleaning his cars, even though he may have used an oily rag to make them shine.

He loved going to Wendover with his wife Cleofas and whoever joined them. Although he really didn’t gamble much, he always cheered for whoever was playing and enjoyed the free drinks.

He was really into sports and quite a big fan of the Utah Jazz basketball team during the era of John Stockton and Karl Malone.

Johnny is survived by his wife (the love of his life), Cleofas; sons, Bernie (Marissa); Leonard (Chantel); daughter, Anita (Edgar); sister-in-law, Carolina Gonzales of Leadville, Colorado; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Viewing & Rosary will be held Sunday, July 26, 2026, from 6 PM- 8 PM, with the Recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 PM at Memorial Redwood Mortuary, 6500 S. Redwood Rd, West Jordan, UT 84047.

Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, July 27, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. Therese Catholic Church, 624 W. Lennox St., Midvale, Utah. Family and friends are welcome to the reading of the eulogy and short viewing prior to the Mass at 10:00 AM.

Interment services will also be at Memorial Redwood Cemetery, 6500 S. Redwood Rd., West Jordan, UT. Luncheon to follow at St Therese Social Hall.

Serving the family as pallbearers will be: grandsons, Nicholas Valladares, Gabriel Gonzales, Isaiah Marquez, and nephews Sonny Gonzales, Ruben Sanchez, and Sean Oldroyd. Honorary pallbearers (grandchildren) Patrick Montoya, Venessa Gonzales, Malayah Valladares, Jordan Valladares, Sebastian Evangelesta, Samantha Clark, Antonio Gonzales, Rudy Gonzales, and Abraham Gonzales. Goddaughters Sylvia Oldroyd and Victoria Corbin.
