Jose “Pep” Contreras

Jose ‘Pep’ Contreras Jr. age 59, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2023 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born on November 24, 1963 in Chihuahua, Mexico to Jose Contreras Sr. and Raquel Ortiz Contreras. Jose came to Utah with his family at the age of four, where they settled in Glendale. This is where Pep and his three siblings (Oscar, Arthur & Joanne) grew up, creating a lifetime of childhood memories. He graduated from South High, the U of U, and many technical universities to achieve multiple master’s degrees.
At age 24 he met & later married the love of his life, Lori Valdez-Contreras. Together they have 4 children. Nicole Valdez-Lozano (Felix), Leah Gardner (Curtis), Juanita Contreras (Mike), his forever baby Maria Contreras and 4 grandkids, Felix Jr. (his feo) Nicolette Alice’faith (his baby girl) Brooke (his beauty) and Valentino (his feíto).
If Pep wasn’t working, worrying about his girls, at one of his grandkids’ sporting events or taking them out for a day on the town. You’d catch him on the golf course with his buddies. FORE! Those terrible dad jokes kept us all laughing no matter who you were. Laughter was his medicine. Pep was a very loving & caring man; he would stop at nothing to make sure his friends & family were taken care of. While never asking for anything in return. His famous words were” I just want the best for everyone”.
Pepe is preceded in death by his Father Jose Contreras Sr., His mother-in-law Nary Valdez, his Granddaughter Nicolette Alice’faith Lozano and many other family members and friends.
We lost a great man, and our hearts will forever have a missing piece. But like Mom always says It’s never goodbye, it’s see you later! Until we meet again, WE LOVE YOU OLD MAN!!!!

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, September 28, 2023 at 10:30 AM at Memorial Redwood Mortuary & Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah. A viewing will be on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Memorial Redwood Mortuary.
A luncheon will be served after services at Memorial Redwood Mortuary from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM.
