Joyce Carol Winther Campbell passed away in Santa Barbara, California, on September 8, 2024, at the age of 96. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on June 8, 1928, to Ole Olafson Winther and Laura Schau Winther, who emigrated from Norway to Utah at the beginning of the 20th Century.
The youngest of 11 children, Joyce grew up in SLC during the Great Depression and graduated from East High at the end of World War II. She married LeRoy Gordon Campbell on November 1, 1947, and they raised a family of three sons: Lee, Kevin and Scot.
Joyce was always energetic and out-going. She sang all day long and you rarely saw her without a warm and welcoming smile. Not content to remain at home keeping a spotless house while her children were young, she became a salesperson for both Avon and Tupperware. When the boys were all in school, she went to work as a teller at the 33rd South & Highland Drive branch of First Security Bank where she eventually became operations manager and ended her career as an executive secretary at the downtown SLC headquarters.
She was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where, because of her love of music, she often served as ward chorister.
Joyce, who always insisted that family is the most important thing in life, outlived all of her siblings. She is survived by her three sons and their wives: Lee (Kyle), Kevin (Adrian) and Scot (Susan) as well as 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
