Joyce Romer Hansen

Joyce Romer Hansen passed away peacefully on August 23, 2013 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Born July 22, 1929 in Tremonton, Utah to Carl Theodore and Valborg Francine Nelson Romer. Married Darrel Dewey Hansen (#1) on July 20, 1951 in Logan, Utah. They enjoyed 60 wonderful years together. Joyce was raised on the family farm and learned early the value of hard work. She attended Bear River High School and later attended Utah State University in Logan. She loved learning and her career in the education system spanned many years. Joyce was a member of the Utah State Board of Education and served on the Utah State Board of International Education. She was an Associate Instructor at Westminster College and a member of the University of Utah Anthropology Outreach Committee.

Joyce enjoyed reading, gardening and travel. She visited many places in the world while traveling with her girlfriends and for her work. Joyce especially loved her work with the Neighborhood House. She served as a member of the Board and was proud of the services Neighborhood House provided the community. Joyce also enjoyed participating with her husband Darrel in his great passion for classic cars. Joyce was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Frances Petersen, Elma Larsen, Anna Leola Goodey, and brother Carl Odell Romer. She is survived by her sister Luella Romer and many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday morning August 27, 2013 at 11:00am at the Brigham City Cemetery, 325 South 3rd East, Brigham City, Utah. Friends and family may visit on Monday evening from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, Salt Lake City, Utah.
