Julia Alice Wright

June 14, 1933 — March 22, 2024

Bountiful

Julia Alice (Judy) Wright returned home to our Heavenly Father on March 22, 2024 in Bountiful, Utah, surrounded by her loving family at the beautiful age of 90.

Julia was born on June 14, 1933 to Alice Louise and Willard Gardner Burton in Portland, Oregon.  After her father died of cancer only 13 months later, Julia moved with her mother and older brother Bruce to Salt Lake City to live with her maternal grandparents. She grew up in Salt Lake City, attending Hamilton grade school, Roosevelt Jr. High, and East High School where she was elected a student body Vice President and Homecoming Queen. Shortly before graduation, her friend set her up on a blind date where she met Ralph Middlemiss Wright, then an Ensign in the U.S. Navy. Their courtship blossomed through letters as Ralph served in the Korean War. They were married on March 20th, 1953 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple by then church President David O. McKay. Throughout their many years together, Julia loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to a faithful and wonderful posterity.

Julia was a dedicated lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in which she held many callings and positions throughout her life. She served as Relief Society President, Young Women’s president, in the Primary, in 3 Young Adult Wards, and for seven years with the Special Needs Activity Program – her favorite calling. In her later years she served as a Bountiful Temple Ordinance worker and fulfilled a mission at the Family History Library. She was devoted to learning and living gospel principles and to consistent study of the scriptures. She remained rooted in her faith of our Heavenly Father’s love and of the Atonement of Jesus Christ.

Julia is preceded in death by Ralph, her husband of 70 years, her parents, her older brother Bruce F. Burton, and her half-brother/sister siblings Bill H. Burton, Serge H. Burton (Winnie), and Virginia Burton Parrott (Fred).

Julia is survived by her children Ralph B. (Pamela), Steven W. (Pamela), T. Scott, Julie Anne (Scott Shaffer), James M. (Cheryl), 21 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Also, by foster children Sandralene Begay Larke (Herman) and Joseph L. Hickerson.
